Compass: Tracker

The part that moves with the wine. A Tracker snaps magnetically onto any Mount, carries your Recipe Card, and follows the batch from primary to secondary to bulk aging, so what's in the vessel is never a question.

HOW MANY DO I NEED?

One per active batch, not one per vessel. Run four batches a season and four Trackers covers you. Trackers are sold individually, so set the quantity to match how many batches you have going at once.

Trackers are reusable: the same one takes a new Recipe Card next year, so you're buying for your peak batch count, not for every batch you'll ever make.

The split is the core of how Compass works. Mounts belong to your vessels. Trackers belong to your batches.

SNAPS ON, STAYS PUT

Trackers hold to Mounts magnetically, firm enough not to wander during racking or a move across the cellar, easy enough that swapping vessels takes a second. No adhesive, no clips, no tape residue to scrape off in spring.

A CLIP THAT ACTUALLY WORKS

Most clips are a compromise. They curl the paper, they take two hands, and they only stay open as long as you keep squeezing.

The Tracker uses a four-bar linkage with a lock. It holds the card flat: no curl across the top edge, so a Recipe Card looks the same on bottling day as it did at crush. It locks open and locks shut, so you're not maintaining pressure while you fumble a card into place. And the whole operation is one-handed, which matters when the other hand is holding a hydrometer, a hose, or a carboy.

CARRIES YOUR RECIPE CARD

Your Recipe Card rides in the clip, so the batch's plan travels with the batch. Check off steps as you complete them and see what's next without opening a notebook.

CELLAR-PROOF

Powder-coated aluminum, same as Mount. Cellars and garages mean humidity, temperature swings, spilled must, and sanitizer on everything; aluminum doesn't rust, and the powder coat takes the rest. Trackers are meant to be reused season after season, so they're built for a decade of them.

WARNING — INTERNAL INJURY HAZARD

Compass Mounts and Trackers contain strong neodymium magnets, permanently set into the aluminum.

Swallowed magnets can damage internal organs and have resulted in death and serious injuries. These are not toys. Keep away from all children and pets.

Never put magnets near your mouth or nose. If you think a magnet has been swallowed, seek immediate medical attention or contact poison control right away — X-rays or prompt surgical removal may be required. Do not wait for symptoms. Symptoms are often non-specific (abdominal pain, fever) and can take hours to weeks to appear, by which point damage can be severe.

The magnets in Compass products are bonded in place and not intended to be removed. If a magnet ever works loose, stop using that Mount or Tracker, retrieve the magnet, and store it away from children — then get in touch and we'll replace the part under warranty.

Also keep Mounts and Trackers clear of pacemakers, defibrillators and other implanted medical devices, and away from credit cards, hard drives and other magnetic media.
