Compass: Hardware Bundle

Permanent labelling for your vessels. 3 Mounts attach to your fermenter and two carboys; the Tracker clips on magnetically and holds whatever you write on, then moves with the wine every time you rack. No tape, no guessing which carboy is which.

The hardware half of the Compass system. Works on its own, or with Compass Recipe Cards and Archive Sheets. → See how Compass works

A LABEL THAT DOESN'T PEEL OFF

Masking tape and a Sharpie work right up until they don't. And when you rack, the label stays behind on the vessel you just emptied, so the wine moves and its name doesn't.

Compass hardware fixes that, and it doesn't care what you write on.

WHAT IT ADDS

3 × Compass: Mount. One for your primary fermenter and one for each of the two carboys a batch racks between. Powder-coated aluminum with built-in 3M VHB adhesive: peel the film, press it on, done. They hold to glass and plastic alike, and they stay put for good.

1 × Compass: Tracker. A locking clip on a magnetic plate. It snaps onto any Mount, holds your paperwork flat against the vessel, and pulls off in a second when the wine moves.

PUT WHATEVER YOU WANT IN IT

The Tracker is a clip. It'll hold an index card, a printout, a page torn from your notebook, or a Compass: Recipe Card. Whatever you already use to keep track of a batch.

That's the point. You don't have to adopt anyone's process to get the benefit. Write "Cab, 12/20, oak" on a card and clip it on, and you've solved the thing tape was failing at: every vessel says what's in it, and the label travels with the wine instead of staying behind on the empty carboy.

A CLIP THAT ACTUALLY WORKS

Most clips curl the paper, need two hands, and only stay open while you keep squeezing. The Tracker uses a four-bar linkage with a lock: it holds the card flat, locks open and shut, and works one-handed: which matters when the other hand is holding a hose or a hydrometer.

START HERE, ADD PAPER LATER

This bundle works on its own. The Tracker holds whatever you write on: a Compass Recipe Card, an index card, your own printout. Clip it in and it rides on the vessel.

When you want the process laid out for you and a permanent record to keep, the Compass: Paper Bundle adds the other half: Recipe Cards with every step in order, and Archive Sheets that hold the batch's numbers and, later, its tasting notes. The cards are sized for the Tracker you already have, and at bottling each one peels off and sticks onto that batch's Archive Sheet.

ONE BATCH AT A TIME

Three Mounts and one Tracker covers a single batch across a fermenter and two carboys.

Running two at once? Each additional batch needs just one more carboy and one more Tracker: the carboys are a shared pool, so every batch after the first adds one vessel, not three. Add them individually as you go.

WARNING — INTERNAL INJURY HAZARD

Compass Mounts and Trackers contain strong neodymium magnets, permanently set into the aluminum.

Swallowed magnets can damage internal organs and have resulted in death and serious injuries. These are not toys. Keep away from all children and pets.

Never put magnets near your mouth or nose. If you think a magnet has been swallowed, seek immediate medical attention or contact poison control right away — X-rays or prompt surgical removal may be required. Do not wait for symptoms. Symptoms are often non-specific (abdominal pain, fever) and can take hours to weeks to appear, by which point damage can be severe.

The magnets in Compass products are bonded in place and not intended to be removed. If a magnet ever works loose, stop using that Mount or Tracker, retrieve the magnet, and store it away from children — then get in touch and we'll replace the part under warranty.

Also keep Mounts and Trackers clear of pacemakers, defibrillators and other implanted medical devices, and away from credit cards, hard drives and other magnetic media.
